Limit action at the Shipwreck!

We pulled into one heck of a bite this morning on the Marine Area 8-2/9 border.
After a late start and chasing a rip line without much luck, we pulled in a bit closer to the Shipwreck and it was game on!

Silver Horde Ace-Hi Flies were the ticket with 33" leaders behind QCove's Jim's Breakaway flashers.

Dr. Chris Beard and his three-year old daughter Kimberly hoist a limit of chunky coho. We were done by 10am and depths from 55 to 90 feet were working fine!

Why do we fight for our fair share as recreational fishermen? Because if we don't, soon there will not be anything left to fight for! Here is a purse seiner making a set this morning just off of the Mukilteo Ferry Landing. While I can understand the ocassional pink salmon opening, I just do not understand commercial fishing for coho in Puget Sound.

Things are shaping up nicely for the Everett Coho Derby this weekend. The forecast calls for dry weather so hopefully the silvers in the Sound will not feel the urge to shoot up the cricks before derby anglers get a crack at them!

Commercial fishing the Puget Sound for Coho? What a joke. I can guarantee you that commercial guy lost money on every set. Commercial fishing in the Puget Sound doesn't make a profit, seriously - what a waste of a resource.

The pic of the seiner in the sound is crazy. Too much. As far as them making a profit, aren't most commercial fisherman subsidized in one form or another?

Yeah, how dare those commercial guys risk their lives support their families in this economy. How dare they risk their lives to put fish in the markets and on restaurant tables around the world for people in need who don't have the time, access, or the resources to catch the gazillion species of seafood on the market. Not everybody on the planet can afford a boat or even know how to fish. I can't even count how many guys I've heard complaining about the commercial fishing industry while gnawing on a king crab leg at the same time. If you complain about the commercial fishing industry, don't go to Pike Place Market for fish or crab. Don't go to Anthony's for all you can eat cod or shrimp. That would make you a hypocrite. Either your all-in or all-out.

I've been all out for a long time, if I don't catch it or it isn't farmed, I don't eat it. I do think you are missing the point though, nobody is saying there shouldn't be a commercial fishing industry. Harvest reform would be a good thing though.

I'm actually quite comfortable saying there shouldn't be any commercial fishing south of Bellingham in the Sound. Probably time to turn our focus in this direction.

Ha, ha, ha. Wow. Risking their lives in Puget Sound during the summer, on a 50' + full displacement hull boat? God those guys are tough.

I power trolled for part of my life up in SE Alaska where I grew up. Here's a little info for the Puget Sound commercial guys. THERE ARE ALMOST NO FISH HERE!!!! You and the tribal guys need to realize that this close to a huge metropolis is no place to be commercial fishing. That's nice that you wax foolishly about what is an anachronistic way of life, but face the facts... Commercial guys should leave the few fish that are out there to the sporties, and either get a new profession, or move.

Sport fishing has never caused the collapse of a fishery or a species. I've fished with people that have your same mentality. You would catch the last fish, and be ecstatic that you "got yours". Go learn something about conservation, maybe you could start off by reading "The Lorax". If you need help with the big words let us know.
