Salmon fishing in Sooke is GREAT right now. Pink,Spring and Coho Salmon are being caught at all the local hotspots. Otter Point has been especially productive with far more and larger Spring Salmon being caught than this time last year.Early mornings have been productive for many trollers running anchovies/herring close to shore in shallow water, up to 35 or 45ft on the downrigger, in 60ft of water.Evenings when the tide is high at Otter Point has also been good. Some anglers have reported releasing Sockeye Salmon,I haven't seen any yet. Many large (20 to 30lb) Spring Salmon are being reported to EAGLE-EYE OUTFITTERS in Sooke, both landed and many "breaking off". Anchovies and herring have been working well in light coloured bait heads; pearl, mint pearl, glow, green glow, pearl tiger fire, mother of pearl, and bloody nose have been popular. Heard of some very big Salmon coming from Possession Point and Secretary Island, but very few. Saw a 40 and 60lb Halibut on a charter boat out of Sooke Harbour Resort and Marina on the 14th, that were caught during the tide switch in the early morning. The weather has been keeping many of the tourists and local anglers away, the water has been flat calm, there are many charters available for hire, and there are some great deals on accomodations in Sooke right now.Best of all the fishing is great!
