Area 9 & 10 Opener!

Postby Cosmic_Coho » Sun Jul 16, 2017 4:40 pm

Fished with my buddy from work today, got to the ramp at Port Townsend @ 5:00 am. Set 4 crab pots in the dark, made our way out to the "racetrack" and dropped a couple 3" Kingfisher spoons over the side.... 30 minutes later we had lost 2 @ the boat, then had a double, got both and were done fishing by 6:00 am. wave
The fish were impaling themselves on everyones rods around us. We saw multiple "doubles", marked tons of bait on the Lowrance, but it was so early the magic number was 55 on the Scotty's.
Stomachs were stuffed with tiny candle fish, candle fish in the bottom of the boat, candle fish all over the parking lot at the boat wash. We let the pots soak till 8:00am, got 3 nice dungy's and 5 big red rock crabs. cheers

Nice work Cos!
You also beat me to that report punch!
Midchannel was solid to smokin' and you hit the nail on the head with the teeny, tiny sandlance!

Nick Kester of All Star Charters had his clients into a quick limit

Small spoons on the bottom was the ticket but we had several strikes on herring as well. There is more good news as Sekiu blew up yesterday so there are a LOT more chinook headed our way! cheers

You never know what "day two" on a fishery would bring but after a solid opener, we coudn't help but be optimistic!

It sure didn't hurt that as we arrived, the Simrad sporting the new 5100 Sonar Module was lit up with bait and chinook!

The current was nearly slack when we started but once the flood current took hold, the chinook went to work on the bait -and our gear- and the bite was on!

The guys from Roy Robinson Chevrolet RV, Gary Morris, Eric Jorgensen and Ben Jorgensen had to punch their cards fairly early this morning!

The word from Sekiu and points west is solid chinook action so this king salmon party is just getting going! cheers
