Point Definace Squid-A-Palooza!!!

Postby SlumRunner » Thu Oct 27, 2016 9:57 am

Wife and myself went down to point defiance in our 18 ft Tiderunner (AKA the SlumRunner). Started squiding at 4pm and went until 7 pm. I used my Lowrance Fish Finder to locate the school, right off the bottom in 80 ft of water. Dropped down and got a couple, then the big school moved in. I started picking up 2 and 3 at a time. As soon as you find them, drop back down so you don't miss the school. The current wasn't running hard, so no need to anchor up. Ended up with 58 squid in total. The folks at the dock weren't having much luck. I contribute that to being able to find where the school was, and also get down deep to where they are. Any jig I put on produced. It just a matter of finding them. No lights needed. I recommend moving around slowly until you find them on your sounder, then start jigging. Heres a few pics of the squid and the finished product. I plan on eating a lot of them and also saving some for halibut bait this spring. If anyone has any questions, or Tom would like to have me on the show, I'm open to sharing tips to my success. Feel free to PM me. I'm fairly new to this sport fishery, and have gone out about 8 times over the past couple years, but this was my best results I've ever had. So much fun on light kokanee rods!

If you go out again and hammer them could you take a screenshot or picture of what your sounder looks like.

Robbo had a really cool screen shot last summer of squid. Not really sure how to post a link, maybe Nelly can straighten it out. viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2864&p=11161#p11157
