Saltpatrol hit Westport this weekend. Water was pretty lumpy but the fish were biting. We found a good king bite Northwest of the harbor mouth in 260ft of water. Lots of action on chinook from 12-24 pounds. Fished the downriggers at 220-230 ft. and marked lots of fish on the Lowrance sonar just off bottom.
Top setup was a 11” flasher with a Gold Star hootchie tied on 6/0 Mustad hooks and 38 inches of Seaguar 50lb fluorocarbon leader and a Fish Flash with a Silver Horde Kingfisher spoon.
Pro-Cure Shrimp Jell scent worked great as all the salmon are full of shrimp. Most of the action came around the tide change. The charter fleet was also getting action on Coho up north off Copalis in 100ft of water.
Next Saturday is the Gig Harbor Puget Sound Angler Salmon Derby in Tacoma. SaltPatrol's John Keizer will be emcee at the event. Ceremony is at the Pt Defiance Boathouse.
John Keizer will also be hosting a seminar on fishing south Puget Sound at the Gig Harbor Puget Sound Anglers meeting on Tuesday 4 August at 7PM. This pre-derby seminar prior to the Gig Harbor PSA salmon derby held on Saturday 8 August. The seminar will cover top fishing spots in Marina Area’s 11 &13, where to be on each tide change, top tackle and techniques to target the returning summer kings funneling back into the south sound now. This seminar will get you ready for all the summer salmon action about to take place and will also cover a little on electronics setup.
The meeting is held at the Tacoma Outboard Association in Tacoma. For more information visit: Gig Harbor PSA
