It's Steelhead Season!

Postby Robbo » Mon Mar 17, 2014 7:15 am

Once the rains starting coming the steelhead fishing picked up dramatically on nearly all of the coastal rivers. The Cowlitz just fired up pretty good a few days ago too thumbup

Here's a few pics from the last couple of weeks.
Childhood friend Fred Fein with a nice wild steelhead from the Noochy

Brent Heilesen from Propel Insurance with his first ever steelhead, which happened to be a mid-teener wild fish that kicked his ass. Nicely done Brent!

Nothing over 15 pounds yet, but that's alright because any steelhead is a good steelhead. I'm just happy to get out and chase these buggers this time of year :D

Let's see some pics if you've been out ;)

Good work! we battled the rain and river last Sunday and got couple. Had to work for them, Clancy's guide service helped us out.

Good stuff Bill thumbup

I heard there was at least a few fish down that way and I might even have to pull off the sacred waters to give it a shot here soon ;)

Thank you! We didn't have much luck side drifting which we did most of the morning. Our guide (Rylee) decided to head up river (from blue creek) and back troll (coon shrimp) and it paid off. He had good skills back trolling keeping the boat parallel to the bank, I hooked up very first drift. My brother hook up the second drift. Then I missed on the third. It was cool to see a professional back troll. I normally hit the steelhead down by Longview in the Columbia with flat fish and lighted wigglers. Always cool to learn something new.
