Big Eye Tuna Caught in Alaska!

A friend just sent me these photos of an 80 pound bigeye tuna that was caught at the mouth of the Tsiu River located between Yakutat and Cordova, Alaska by Nicole Zeiser while she was fishing for silvers. The tuna was caught on September 16th. The Tsiu is famous for it's run of big and aggressive silvers, but would've thunk a tuna would show up in those chilly northern waters. Can you imagine tying into this beast on your 8 weight...all I can say is WOW

...if you tied that bigeye tail to tail with a Yakutat coho...
The coho would spawn in the upper reaches, not greatly troubled by the extra drag...

I would be interested in knowing the particulars on how the tuna was landed on an 8 wt. fly rod. Did the fish commit suicide by running into the seine net in the photo? I am somewhat skeptical, but stranger things happen all the time.

Yep, that's global warming alright. Give another 100 years, we will have Bonefish in the state of Washington in Area 13. They will replace what we currently have; Cutthroats, and most Salmon & Steelheads.
