This time of the year the clientele are targeting Steelhead on the fly and with the rain, also comes the Steelhead and fresh Coho. Picture 1 is of Mori from Hawaii, with a beautiful Steelhead she caught with a Spey Rod with a Black and green butt Intruder fly. Mori had a 6 fish hook up of Steelhead and as you can see she is very happy with this catch and release Steelhead.
Picture 2 is of Ryota also from Hawaii who landed his first Steelhead in BC and I was more than willing to hold this Steelhead for the picture, this was the only picture we got as this feisty beast shot out of my grasp seconds after the snap of the camera. This couple had a great time in Skeena country and were so intrigued with the local steelhead fishing they cancelled a trip to the Orient to spent it locally touring the Steelhead rivers.
Picture 3 is of Nabeyama who flew in from Japan and day 1 while finishing his 4th cast he hooked and landed this beautiful Skeena Steelhead.
Picture 4 is of Mr Suzuki as he has returned again for the 5th time chasing the elusive Steelhead and guiding this gentlemen is a real treat for me. Suzuki found a pool in a long stretch of river and pulled 3 Steelhead out on the fly. We had a great week entertaining the guests from the USA and Japan. Our latest group of 7 took many nice pictures and will be posted this winter as were collecting the best of the best.
Picture 5 and 6 are of yesterdays client Takahashi with a pair of Steelhead on the fly, fishing a pink and orange intruder.
With the fall season in full swing, snow capping the mountains, we have 3 groups filling our last fishing slots and the guides are gearing up for another great week, teaching, netting, hunting and enjoying the colours the rivers and trees have to offer.
While in conversation with the clients that are flying into Canada from abroad they tell me Canada is a hot destination in the fall as the change of the trees is what they feel is worth the flight. Something we as well find fascinating.
As far as the Douglas Channel fishing here in Kitimat, Halibut fishing is closed and hopefully we can come to terms over the winter with DFO, as a local food fishing resource sits in limbo.
