Sekiu

Decided to give Sekiu a try as the seas were reported to be worse of PA. Great fishing as my boys and I nearly got our limits both days. Our largest was 12, but se saw a few caught in the 20's. Lots of coho, although on the smaller side, to keep things interesting while waiting for the kings. Once we kept our gear down more, our rate of kings to coho's improved dramatically. Lost track of how many wilds we released.

Nice work!
Sekiu has been smokin and your report is just what I've been hoping to see from board members headed out there!

Incidentally, if that pic seems short or cut off on this new Forum layout, just click on it and it will enlarge.

Nicely done! I fished west of PA on Friday and Saturday morning. The wind and waves were enormous on Friday night so we had to sit out some of the action. We released 5 natives, largest was every bit of 30 lbs. We couldn't find a legal king though it was tough fishing. Glad to hear you guys drilled it! Looks like a rough week out there coming up. Lots of big water! Planning to go to Neah Bay as soon as the weather breaks in the Straits.

Thanks Tom and Todd. At Sekiu on Saturday, it was dead calm till we pulled off the water at noon. Friday was a different story. I did happen to drive over to Cape Flattery and do the hike (beautiful view of the caves) and the view of the open ocean outside of tatoosh was very inviting! Heard reports from a guy in a grady headed to Neah that fish were being caught in the 40's. Best 2 days of fishing for me and my boys at Sekiu. Awesome kings on the barbe' tonight...

Way to get the kids into 'em!

Fyi Jeff, in summer during hot weather periods it common for the straits to be windy while the coast remains wind free. We often fish the ocean out of Neah when the central strait's forecast calls for 15-25kt, and often never see a breath of wind. Just the normal light summer light well and/or chop created by currents around the reefs and points.

Have fished Neah every weekend so far this year and will be back this weekend of course. With the exception of the opener (June 16th) it's been fantastic. Fish last weekend averaged 19-20lbs and a boat limit of 8 chinook each day. Oh yea, and wind free both days!!! True about the 40# you heard about. Infact, there were at least 3 40# class fish landed into Neah last weekend. 2 of which were caught in the vicinity of our boat. We never broke 25# last weekend, but got lucky to break the 30# mark back on June 24th. Maybe we'll get fortunate this weekend and have a chance to break 40#? We're gonna have the wives on board and that'd be a riot. They're around, that for sure.
