"We fished Ilwaco this past Saturday with Dave Auman on the Team Simrad boat. We ran over the Columbia River bar, ran about 2 miles north and started trolling up on the beach in 40 ft of water. Using Lowrance Structure Scan we were able to quickly locate the schools of bait fish the salmon were feeding on.
We hooked several fish including one 18lb king on a diver with a small size Fish Flash with a 6 ft of 25lb Seaguar fluorocarbon leader to 4/0-5/0 Mustad thin wire hooks. We were using Pautzke’s Fire Brine herring in chartreuse color rigged whole.
After the action slowed, we found birds feeding out in 70ft of water and hooked several more kings. We changed over to downriggers and were trolling 40ft with a medium size Fish Flash and a whole herring.
We hooked up on 27 chinook total for the day. It was a great day of fishing!
Ilwaco is now open for salmon fishing seven days a week with a 1 king and 1 hatchery coho combined daily limit"
