We took our annual fall trip to the Methow last Sunday. Fishing was much slower than the last couple of years.
We were met with sub-freezing temperatures until 11am, that didn't stop my wife from catching a bright Steelhead on her second cast. In total we hooked a number of fish and landed 4. About halfway through the day we happened to meet up with the local fish checker and she mentioned that 2009 & 2010 were banner years on this river. She said that this year was an average Methow year and the rivers average catch rate was 1 fish for every 12 hours fished.
Our successes came near the lake at Millers Landing where all 4 fish were caught and we lost 3 that we had on and taking line. This fishery will continue throughout the month and will have its good days and its slow days. I think that a warm day paired with a little more water in the river could help the bite. All in all a beautiful fall day to be on the east side of the mountains.
