The secret to winning the derby....

Postby Todd Busby Cut Plug » Fri Sep 23, 2011 4:48 pm

Cut Plug Herring between 8 feet and 17 feet down, in the wash of the kicker. I fished the straits near P.A. the last 2 days. We hammered the coho. No joke, we could see our down rigger balls beneath the boat, another 20 to 40 feet back of the clip to the cut plug herring, spinning hard. We caught more fish 10 feet from the top than anywhere else. The silvers would first try to wound the herring then come back for the final strike. It was money! Don't set the hook too early, let them come back for it. I don't get to fish the tourney this weekend, I have a date with a 5x5 mule deer.

Have a ball guys and work the cut plug herring. You won't regret it!

That is waaaay cool!

I love watching them bite and it doesn't happen all that often. You may just be right! Shallow may be a big key this weekend!
