Best Salmon fishing in years in Sooke NOW! Big Springs,Pinks,Coho, and as of Aug 10th Sockeye Salmon is open to 2 per person per day. Common to see wheelbarrows full of Salmon on the docks at Sooke Harbour Resort and Marina last couple of weeks. Many are sending thier catches to St.Jeans Cannery in Nanaimo through EAGLE-EYE OUTFITTERS in Sooke. The Big Springs are being found close to shore,Possession Point,Secretary Island and Trap Shack are hot right now, especially first thing in the morning, mid-day and in the evening. Light coloured heads are popular; mint pearl, pearl white, blue glow, blue clear, pearl tiger fire, glow green, glow white and Betsy anchovy heads have been working great behind any brightly coloured green flasher. Many anglers have been trying white and glow below hootchies, and light coloured Coyote spoons for the big Springs. Pinks, Coho, and Sockeye have been grabbing the Fire Plug style and any small pink hootchies, trolled at 70 to 80ft on short leaders, 12 to 18 inches behind red flashers. Best spot for the mix of smaller Salmon is off the reef on the South tip of Secretary Island. Sooke is sold out of fishing licenses, you can purchase them on- line by googleing DFO saltwater licenses.
