Last Chance to Hammer Southwest Silvers 1
This coho has a serious case of Elephantitus of the Schnauz!
With winter steelhead cruising the rivers right now most Northwest anglers have put this years huge salmon run in the rear view mirror. Our friend Bill Swann from Swanny's Fishing is stall schwacking his share of fit-for-the-table bruiser coho, however, and thinks the fishing will continue thru the middle of December on the Humptulips and Satsop Rivers in Southwest Washington.
I just caught up with the honorable Bill Swann and here's what he had to say, "Last week they were really jumping on the spoons, but as the waters dropped and gotten colder we've shifted over to mostly twitching marabou jigs to get our fish." The water temperature was a balmy 36 degrees when I talked to Bill today, which means you can sleep in this week if you're planning an attack on one of these rivers. Hit the water in the afternoon when the river is even a degree or two warmer and these fish will be a lot more apt to take you for a ride.
Both rivers have historically produced late-running silver salmon and it isn't uncommon for the Satsop to kick out hooknose coho past Christmas. The obvious plus to fishing either of these rivers in December is the opportunity to bang out both winter steelhead and coho on the same water.
We'll have Bill Swann on the Outdoor Line on Saturday to give us the skinny on these late silvers and the upcoming steelhead run in Southwest Washington.
Great report Robbo.
