Is it Saturday yet? 3

I dropped into the Gig Harbor Sportsmans Club on Friday to sight in the ol' Belgium Browning 30-06 for next weeks deer hunt. First shot, a half inch low and dead-nuts in the bullseye! I thought to myself, "Hmmph, that never happens." Second and third shots were both an inch to the left of the first and touching one another, so I started dialing the Burris 3 X 9 up and over slightly. A half inch at a time the shots crept up the sheet until the last three pierced the target within a quarter inch of one another two inches above the bullseye. Two inches high at 100 yards puts the 150 grain Winchester XP3's on target at 200 yards. For some reason my Browning has always shot the best groups with 150 grain Winnie's and I had to search high and low to find these loads. It's odd, but after 18 years of hunting with this gun I just go with the flow.

Today was spent dialing in the new not-so-secret weapon, a mountain bike for getting into the back country and as far away from people as possible. Ask me sometime why "getting away from people" is so high on my priority list. The bike will head to Old Town Cycle in Gig Harbor tomorrow to have some "Slime" applied between the tubes and tires to help reduce flats caused by thorns or small rocks. Kody Kellom and the boys at Born and Raised Outdoors in Roseburg, Oregon use mountain bikes with kiddy-trailers to penetrate as far as 30 miles into Southern Oregon's remote elk country. While I'm not going that far the bike will definitely save some of the aches and pains that seem to be appearing with more regularity the last couple of years. I'll post some pictures of the bad-motor-scooter later in the week.
