We caught a coho out in the salt this week that was absolutely STUFFED with smelt.

While smelt are no stranger to the Sound, finding a "six pack" in the stomach of an October coho certainly got my attention and made me think about the wide variety of forage fish available to our local marine fishes.

Well, you know what happens when I start thinking about something... I have to write about it...

Check out http://blog.theoutdoorline.com/author/Tom-Nelson.aspx when you get a chance... It might make you think too! :D

This is good news, Smelt = winter steelhead delight!
While not a six pack, this small hen from last week had just chocked down a couple of 4.0 ounce'ers!

We saw something pretty unusual yesterday.
Before we left the Everett boat basin, harbor seals were chasing burned out pinks and chums into corners and chewing them up.
Out by the Mukilteo Ferry landing, spawned out pinks that had been flushed down the river had attracted a bunch of sealions who were just munching them up... Yum?
