Skagit Nets

So I'm sure some people have already seen it on other sites but here's whats being done to protect our endanger steelhead on the skagit these days.....

And I know these nets are targeting springers and not in the best location to get alot of incoming and outgoing steelhead, but come on. REALLY??

It's an absolute travesty and a colossal waste of tax payers money and energy to fight the good fight of saving our fish when we have indiscriminate killing going on in this state. Time for our bureaucrats to wake up.

Oh yeah, and according to the Official Tribal netting hotline those ILLEGAL nets are about a day and half LATE from being pulled out.

That just kills me :(

When our steelhead runs can no longer support a recreational catch and release fishery, we have no business killing them in a gillnet. Spawned out steelhead have NO COMMERCIAL VALUE other than catfood and possess repeat reproductive potential far in excess of younger, smaller fish.

It's time to build fishwheels or use seines to harvest salmon and still have the ability to release steelhead unharmed.

I'm not arguing against treaty rights but I'm all for banning gillnets!
