Tired of steelhead fishing in the rain and snow for a bit...thank God for lingcod season!

Out tomorrow for the first try of the year...fish and chips on the menu for tomorrow.

Fish on...

In spite of waking up to frost the weather on the 1st was glorious and the sound was flat calm - a great opener and what a nice change from what has been a long "winter".

Made the trip up to the "Islands" with my oldest son and his life long fishing buddy. Seemed to be a good crowd of folks fishing with the makings of some great dinners going into the folk's fish boxes.

Fishing was good enough we were able to hand pick limits of those 30 to 32 inch lings that I like to keep for table. Suspected that we were in for a good day when on the first stop at a popular "reef" I got my "keeper" on the very first cast with a lead head/jig.worm combo; the jig never made it to the bottom!!

Have plans for that ling as the "featured" guest for a couple dinners.

Tight lines
Curt

Nice work Curt!
It must have been a glorious spring morning up in the San Juans, one of those day that really make you glad to be a northwesterner!
Goodness knows, we've earned it after living through "Apriluary"!

We ended up going north farther than we had planned thanks to the wind forecast, and even though it poured on us all day...all day...we stayed out of the wind just fine.

Four guys, four keepers, all pretty much caught in the first hour or so...lots of little ones, of course, a few released that would have been small keepers, too...the usual assortment of bottom hugging uglies other than lingcod, enough to always keep it interesting.

Only saw a couple of other boats in our area, and only from quite a distance...

The only thing we missed was the sun, everything else was pretty good.

Fish on...

Good on ya Todd!

I was just running out the door to go to the WSC meeting to see Dave Pflug...and then I realized it was tomorrow night. Dangit! I haven't been to a meeting in a loooooong time and really wanted to see some of the results he's going to present. Hope some of that work can be used to recover steelhead on that favorite river of ours. I really miss those days!
