I gots some size 70 hot shots to sit in the boat and BS with a couple of old buddies. Haven't been trout fishing in 20 years.
?? I got some small siwash size 8 I think. Should I put a small barrel swivel on the o-ring or just the hook when I change them out. Want to be able to release but I don't want to kill the action.

Hey EC!
I wouldn't bother with the swivel.

You could be adding an action-dampening load to that plug, resulting in reduced effectiveness.

When Luhr Jensen designs a lure, they do so envisioning a speed range and hook weight. If either of those parameters are exceeded the plug may not operate as intended.

Enjoy those #70 hotshots and good luck on the trout opener this Saturday! cheers

The treble hook that comes on the size 70 is really small. You'll hook fish on it but you'll miss quite a few also. I would add a small swivel to get the hook back of the plug for better hookups. Or just add a size larger treble hook. As Nelly mentioned you don't want to go crazy with the hook or swivel size as it will mess up the action. Run a couple split shot to get it down and you will hammer trout on that little bastard!

Not that it's hard to hook stocker trout though ;)

We hammered em ok lot of fun. Went with a couple old buddies we haven't trout fished together since our kids were little. I'm a hardcore saltwater fisherman. Sometimes I think I get to anal about it. Fishing is supposed to be fun, and this was.
I put # 8 siwash hooks on. I'm going to add the swivels.
I have a 6.5 ' eagle claw featherlight rod and a tiny pfluger levewind. Set it in the rod holder and watch it bend double.

Have fun out there get involed so we can this thing around.
