EMERGENCy, need a hand reel

I have a small instrument that measures temp, salt, depth that needs to be shipped to the Arctic for field work this week all of a sudden. The very nice expensive fishing reel I bought for it froze up this last spring north of Greenland. (It only reels up when it's warm.) So I need something simple that can't fail. The instrument only goes to 60m, so hand winding up is ok. The thing needs to free fall though. I'm thinking of just making something, but if I can find something TODAY that will work, that'd be better. Any ideas? I live in Bothell, WA.
