I'm planning on heading out to Westport for the first razor clam opener this weekend, and figured as long as I was there I'd take a shot at fishing off the docks in the boat basin for the Coho that return there. I've not tried that fishery before, so I was wondering if anybody had any tips? What should I be fishing with, vibrax spinners, plugs? Is the bite time of day or tide dependent, or will any time work?

I fished Gray's Harbor today and just happened to observe the dock fishing first hand!
The Westport boat basin has always held a pile of anchovies and big hooknose coho swing through and inhale the tasty, nourishing baitfish.

Basin anglers fish off the dock ramps watch for coho cruising the harbor and cast Vibrax and Mepps Flying C spinners


When the basin coho busters hook up, they work their way down the ramp to their landing net that they leave on the floats.

Generally this is not a tide-dependent fishery. They just cast with their backs to the wind and work their spinners in front of cruising coho. Morning and evening seem to offer the best action.
