Good question E!
It's hard to let go.of that wonderful summer but you know what?
I am looking.forward to the November 1 blackmouth opener!
Lamiglas has their Classic Glass downrigger rod priced very reasonably but I have to confess that I run Lami Kenai Kwiks with the composite handle in 10'6".
Sitting on the Lamiglas is the new Daiwa Saltist 30 levelwind spooled up with Trilene Big Game 25# in the hi-via Solar Collector color.
Great question! thumbup

I also like a 10.5ft rod for downrigging, but I use a 1264 weight rod (rainshadow blank) and really like it. Light enough to make smaller fish fun, but big enough to use year round for even big kings. For a reel, you have so many choices. Good drag is most important, I think, since they all hold enough line. Tekota 500LC or 300LC are always good, the Charter Specials if you like a lever drag. Saltists are very good reels too ( I have one for tuna). Almost anything that feels good to you and has a decent drag should work.

Lami 10'6" Kenai Kwik with a Tekota 500 is what I use down here. This setup is about as close to downrigging perfection as your gonna get. thumbup

The Saltist's are awful tempting Nelly. I've heard very, very good things about them ;)

Here's the Kenai Kwik in action in downtown Las Craigas, Alaska. What else is there to do in the evening :D

Some great setups there. I use a fetha styx downrigger rod and shimano tekota 500LC reel. Amazing setup Really enjoy the fetha styx and in my opinion you can't get any better of a reel than the tekota.

+1 for the Lami Classic Glass. Love that rod. Use it for winter and summer fish off the rigger. There cheap too. Around 80 bucks if i can remember. Tom Pollack got me hooked on those at sportco. Cant go wrong with a tekota for the reel also.
