Great video, great editing and next year we'll get pole position instead of starting from the back of the pack! :o

Heck yes it was :!: Some big league Chinook fisherman in the islands brother. A guy could learn a lot running with that crowd. I really miss fishing up there...like really miss it :!: Yes...I have a problem :D

Nice discussion about boats but who caught fish?????
Where did you fish and what were you pulling?
Loved the video.

Oh...the fishing...well...um...we didn't do so hot

We towed cut plug herring almost the entire time looking for that one big fish and it just wasn't happening. There were a few fish being picked up on bait, but Floyd put the hammer down dragging flashers'n Ace Hi's. He matched the candlefish hatch and apparently that's what they wanted. The guy is good, very good!

There were only 68 fish weighed in the derby for 335 anglers, however, and some of the islands finest didn't fair all that much better. Actually not too bad of numbers considering that there's been derbies with less than half that many weighed. The nice thing about this derby is that it only takes one and you just never know when that one's going to climb on.

The islands have always primarily been a bait show. Hungry blackmouth that will willingly eat a fresh bait...damn that's fun : ) The last few years small spoons and hoochies have started to put up equal and sometimes greater numbers of fish in the islands though. Perhaps there's been a shift in the available bait for these fish or who knows what. Hooligans seem to be making a comeback and there's no shortage of candlefish in the islands.

All I know is that I'm glad I don't have the Polar Bear down here, as I'd be keeping the Arabs in bidness this winter burning their gas :D :D

Sounds like a great time!

Have to agree that it is always fun and informative to rub shoulders with a great collection of the region's best fishers.

BTW -
It is now official - Nelly and his shotgun start is now ready for the bass circuit!!

Tight lines
Curt

As soon as bass start biting downrigger gear and tasting like salmon when they come out of the smoker... I'll join the bass circuit ;) ;)

Debbie Sandwith does a great job putting this derby together. A special thanks to her, all the people in Roche Harbor, Tony Floor and NMTA. We had a great time and really enjoyed rubbing elbows with some great fisherman. Already looking forward to next year.

Way to brake in those new E-Tec's, But think 300hp's could be in your future.
