King Salmon Retrieval Method

So the first boat of the summer pulled into the ol' dock this afternoon with four nice kings. Big Ron proudly gaffed the first one out of the hold, which was also the biggest, and began hoisting it across to the waiting fish tote on the dock. It was barely, barely on the gaff and all of us were saying "Nooooooooooooooooo" in slow motion as the 25 pound king slid off the gaff and KAWOOSH...to the bottom it went
Those of you that have met our fish cutter "Slice and Dice" know he's not afraid to jump into his Speedo's and free dive to the bottom to retrieve salmon, halibut, phones, glasses, false teeth, etc..
Well, we made some strides today and Tim's free diving days might be over
Dwight had the rather human idea of taping a harpoon to a 16 foot long pole and harpooning the darn thing on the bottom. The first try produced this old boot heal, which was kind of weird. I don't even want to know what else is down there
Tim lining up for another attempt at the lost king
Winner winner chicken dinner!
Victory! Dwight proudly hoists the king for all the world to see. Mankind took a very small step today
And yet another summer of shenanigans begins here in Las Craigas, Alaska
