The annual Ft. Lewis Youth Shoot will get underway at 10:00 AM on Saturday August 13 2011 at the Ft. Lewis Shooting Range. The Youth Shoot is an opportunity for young people, age 15 and younger to enjoy the thrill of breaking clay pigeons with a shotgun. One of the 134 participants last year commented, “I can’t believe how fun this is. We get to make noise and break things and it’s OK!”

The shoot is sponsored by Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Western Wa Pheasant Releasers, and Pheasants Forever Chapter 257. Volunteers will provide all the shotguns, ammunition, clay targets, and a free lunch for all participants.

The shoot will be closely regulated for safety. All participants will receive a safety briefing prior to handling firearms. A parent or guardian must also attend the safety briefing and be present during all firearm handling.

The volunteers involved with this event hope to introduce young people to clay target shooting, a fun, safe sport that requires eye to hand coordination, concentration and mental discipline. Participants will begin with simple targets, but also have the chance to try more challenging shots.

I had a chance to go shoot at Ft. Lewis this past year, great time and it gives you a great appreciation for our servicemen and women.
