Winter in Wrangell means getting ready for next year!

Well, I'm looking out my window at a snow squall making its way east through Chichagof Pass heading straight for Wrangell. It's winter, so what do I expect right? Thanksgiving is in a few days and Christmas is right around the corner. These are happy times, but fishing seems to always be lurking in the back of my mind. I got it bad! But I know I'm not the only one. So, I start to go through all my fishing gear, cleaning and inspecting rods and reels, tying a seasons supply of salmon leaders, tune up downriggers and swap out worn hooks. This makes me feel better and puts me ahead of the game come spring time. May and June is when the Stikine River Kings will start to show up and believe me, I will be ready to go! Right now, there are some Kings out around Wrangell, but weather dictates ones plans this time of year, so fishing opportunities can be pretty slim. There have been some sport fishermen out on the nicer days fishing closer to town and actually hooking up some Kings! A few in the mid to high 20's even. Not bad for winter fishing and fresh King this time of year sure tastes good. So, while there isn't much time on the boat for me, I get my fix in preparing for the upcoming season and remembering the awesome fishing we had. :D

Happy Thanksgiving!
