Went Steelhead fishing on Saturday...and found a big bright Coho! Have had my share of salmon this year, and was hoping to find a couple fresh winter runs for Thanksgiving dinner. Put in at Masey Bar and ran up to a big pool. Pulling shrimp and eggs drew a few strikes, but no hookups. Started seeing a few jumpers and rollers, and soon determined they were salmon. Typical river coho, they were very active, but very tight lipped! Threw every thing at them to no avail. Finally decided to run a plug right thru their faces, backing down the pool real slow. 50 ft. down the drift.....SLAM!! Nothing like a plug strike! Especially fiesty Coho on a plug strike.
Eased over to the gravel bar and dropped anchor, played her out awhile as I had no net man, but she had both sets of hooks in her mouth, and wasn't going anywhere. Sealice had fallen off, but not a bit of color, so I figure she just came into the fresh water on the rain last week.
