Spent a few days on the Sky this week chasing Coho and fishing has been decent.
On yesterdays trip one of our fish had a bad (Ugly) flipper.
Courisous what folks think may have caused the damage,......
(it had a matching scar on the other side too)
Net?
Seal?

That is one gnarly caudal peduncle!

My guess is that a seal or sea lion got ahold of that unfortunate salmonid.

I couldn't see any gillnet scars on your fish although I've seen lots,...and lots of gillnets around the mouth of the Snohomish... bangheadwall

There is a nice repellent for seals and sea lions... It looks like this tommygun

Probably a seal.

Gillnet damage is often seen from just behind the gillplate to the dorsal fin (widest part of the body). If they get their body through the net past the dorsal fin, then they are free of the net. It would be unusual to see gillnet damage behind the dorsal fin.
