I fished on my buddy Chris's Blackhawk Saturday with our good friend Patrick out of Everett. We worked the Shipwreck line and were able to put three in the box. The first coho was a 9# buck taken on the diver with a purple haze and the second and third were both taken on a ace-hi down 80' on the wire. I fished off the skiff with my brother and BT today with a big fat SKUNK! Who brought the bananas? It seemed a bit slow but there are still some nice fish around. It ain't over yet and next weekend looks pretty fishy... Congratulations to Pat for his first coho salmon! G

second the congrats to Pat on his first salmon - a dandy coho!
Your experience over the weekend just illustrate how "random" coho fishing has become in this area.. The checks at Everett on Sunday was still nearly a coho per boat (with more than 100 boats checked) - awful good for this time of year. One can be doing everything right and if you just don't happen to stumble into a biter or two or a couple take-downs don't stick you can end up with an empty fish box.
Poggieron -
Yes it is an unclipped fish. In spite of whatr some folks think it is legal to keep those coho in MA 9 and 8-2 (and other areas).- always pays to check the regs.
Tight lines

Thanks for the update guys!
I'm headed out right now and I'm hoping to bump into a couple before the winds forecast for this afternoon hit.
I will report back this afternoon good, bad or bumpy!

Good luck Nelly! Hey Pog...just an fyi, not all hatchery coho are clipped and the law/rules are never intentionally broken on my boat. I know it seems unnecessary to bonk a native fish but I work very hard at this and as long as we are following the regs, I don't have a problem with it. We are all about following the regs. Thanks for the observation. Your rite Smalma... sometimes you can do everything perfect, but if the fish aren't biting, you come in empty handed. G

A tough morning for us today.
We pulled a blank. Two srikes, a couple of head shakes and that was all.
Very few boats and I heard of one fish..definitely not wide open, however I did hear of a pretty good bite off of Camano Head so there could be some life left in the coho fishery yet!
