UPCOMING SEMINAR
On July 23rd at 10:00AM, Douglas Saint-Denis, a guide from Ridge to River Outdoors (www.ridgetoriveroutdoors.com) will be giving a seminar on how to catch salmon on Dick Nites. This promises to be a great learning experience. Call to reserve your spot! (360-757-4361)
FRESHWATER
Baker Lake sockeye opener finally announced! See below for details. A great map of the launches can be seen at this website: http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/salmon/socke ... oaters.pdf Fishing should be good to start out and get better as they transport more fish into the lake. As of July 19, over 4300 fish have been transported to the lake and lots more are on their way. Last year we did well trolling 35 feet down on the downrigger with a big ring dodger and 2 Gamakatsu hooks with a shrimp tail. Early mornings are the best.
SALTWATER
Marine Area 7 salmon fishing has slowed a bit but there have been some big ones weighed in. The fish checker checked a 34 pounder on Sunday along with a few others. We weighed in a 28 pounder here at the store. Obstruction Pass, Tide Pt/Eagle Bluff, and Pt Lawrence have all been good spots. The west side of San Juan, especially Eagle Pt has started to turn on as well. Watch for a few humpies to start showing up any time. A few have already been spotted in the river.
Marine Area 7 crabbing was great by most accounts. Quite a few people have reported easy limits in all of the regular spots.
HUNTING
Bear hunting opens August 1 in most areas. Time to get out and do some scouting!
