Dark, cool with wind from the South this morning, not as many boats as Monday so trolled with the tide toward President Pt. I decided to use a 6" Tomic Plug #603 Glow/Pearl. Set it 50 FT back and the DR at 65 FT, 20 minutes later, pole pops of the DR Clip and I fight a 24" Clipped Blackmouth to the net. This occurred about 5:30 AM. Tried a number of other lures as the tide moved but nothing happened and the radio was quiet. Toward the high I moved toward Appletree Cove where the moochers/jiggers were working the water, put the 6" Tomic back on, set the gear at 95 FT, moved into 200 FT+ water and the pole pops of the DR Clip and this is a way bigger fish, pulled over 200 FT of line off, went deep, came up and moved around the boat a couple times. Great fight but in the net it went and I had a 19 LB 33" clipped summer king.
When I gutted the fish, the Blackmouth had 6" herring in it.

I totally agree. These big kings are agressive this year. Plugs and short leadered Hootchies.

Great report......go get em

Whats the difference between the 6" Tomic plug and a similar Silver Horde plug of the same colors ?

How fast are you pulling your plugs?

Tomic plugs have a wire towbar and Silver Hordes have a stamped plate. Of course Silver Horde also makes their classic bead chain harness plug.
Check out my Plug Primer blog for more information http://blog.theoutdoorline.com/post/2010/08/05/Plug-Primer!.aspx

As an old plug puller once told me: "You need to "zing" those plugs"... 2mph is ok, 3mph is not out of the question. As always, reconcile your troll speeds with your downrigger wire angles.

I picked up a few plugs today over at Ted's in Lynnwood today.
While Mike C. was digging them out of the new box that just came in he asked me how many I wanted .
I told him 2 of this and 2 of that , he said what 30-40 .

I said no these are'nt for Nelly and & Tobeck , everyone laughed . !! :D
