Well, the Wrangell King Salmon Derby officially came to an end yesterday with some impressive shifts on the ladder. First place went to a fine 44.7 pound King with second place a very close 44.3 King caught off Coffman Cove, AK. The Wrangell Derby was a success I feel in that the top 4 fish were all over 40 pounds and the rest of the top ten were all over 37 pounds. What is also very interesting is that these Kings were caught in several different locations which made the fishermen work for them. I had a group of 5 out for the last 3 days of the derby and we all worked very hard to try and put a King on the ladder. We didn't quite make it, but we sure caught some great fish. We are starting to see more Kings showing up in consistent numbers and holding tight making for a decent bite. :D

Those are some impressive weights John. Seems like there's more big kings on the inside right now than we are seeing on the outside. Hope the numbers continue to build for you in the Wrangell area. Keep us posted!

Thanks for the update John, I have had the chance to fish with the Urata brothers in Wrangell before and just love that area.
