Omak Lake & Buffalo Lake Reports

Last week I decided to forgo the ling cod opener and head east for some spring trout fishing. A high school buddy of mine flew out for a couple of days of kayak fishing. The weather couldn't have been more ideal. We got an early start on Thursday morning and we were on Omak Lake fishing by noon.
Collectively, we landed close near 40 Lahontan Cutthroat while trolling Brad's Cutplug Herring and large Apex lures.
The day was winding down and we were getting close to pull out and Brian hooks into a monster Lahontan. I pedaled over to get a good look at this fish.
We could see a large fish tail hanging out of the fishes mouth which she later spit up into the net. It was hard to make out what exactly the fish was. Either an 8" long juvenile Lahontan or a Tui Chub.
Buffalo Lake
Day two, we drove an hour from Omak to Buffalo Lake. Buffalo is another beautiful lake tucked away down a dirt road near the Grand Couley Dam. Rebecca Lake sits right below it and from what I hear, it holds some nice large mouth bass.
We struggled catching any fish until we got to the opposite end of the lake. Fishing in roughly 15 feet of water we couldn't keep the rainbow trout off the line. We were trolling a variety of different sized Needlefish spoons and Rapalas. The fish were averaging 16 to 20".
Strong fighters. We released all but one big triploid. The wind came up later that afternoon which cut our day a little short. Still, a great day on the water.
