Bill Vernon's 49.5 Pound King

Bill Vernon topped the 46 pound king salmon he caught with us last year with a 49.5 pound king salmon two days ago. The big king bit a mooched cut plug herring in 90 feet of water and the funny thing is...the whole thing played out on the sonar.

The Lowrance screen had been blank for about twenty minutes when I picked up a big, bright streak following up one of the leads on the sonar screen. I asked, "Which one of you guys is at 60 feet right now?" Bill raised his hand immediately and I told him to open his bail and drop his back back ten feet...then start reeling again. Sure enough the big king couldn't resist the sudden change of direction and he pounced all over the cut plug herring. Bill set the hook and the fight was on!

Here he is with his patented trophy king salmon fish kiss!

In addition to this nice king salmon we've heard reports of several other big kings being caught off the outside of Noyes Island this past week. This is the time of year when the big'uns roll into some of the trophy king haunts out there and if you're willing to put in the time, well, you just never know what you might come up with.

Thanks for stopping by and good fishing to you!
