Left home Saturday morning at 4:00 off to Keystone launch on Whidbey to head up to the Banks for some halibut fishing. In the water by 6:30 headed first to Dallas Bank. Anchored up with chum down and baits in the water. Lots of boats out but didn't see any fish being caught. Finally around 9:30 a pole buries and up comes a 20lb halibut.
The water is so calm and nothing happening so we decide to give it a few more minutes then head to Hein Bank. Had a visit from the Sheriff and thoroughly checked out. Pink slip to show at the next visit.
Ran up to Hein passing a group of boats on Eastern Bank. All the banks had boats on them. Anchored on the southern end of the bank until the slack. It's getting late in the day with a long run back to Keystone so decided to pull anchor and drift a ways before picking up and heading home. Not long into the drift a pole buries and after a couple good runs the 30lb fish is in the boat.
Nothing huge but fresh fish in the freezer and a wonderful day on the water. Looking forward to the 18th and hoping the weather and water will be as welcoming.
Thanks Rob for the encouragement and J hooks all the way.
The hoochie with the light caught a fish but so did the hoochie without a light. We'll keep working on it.
