UPCOMING SEMINARS
Tonight and tomorrow night, Cal Stocking of Cause For Divorce Guide Service will be giving free sockeye seminars here at Holiday Sports. Both nights are already filled up with over 100 people each night. Keep watching the fishing report for upcoming seminars in the future.
FRESHWATER
Lake Samish has still been putting out a few kokanee. Rick (Skagit Arms employee) said that he and a friend fished it on Monday morning. He noted that the bite was decent early in the morning once it got bright out, the fish went off the bite. He tried going deeper throughout the morning but had no luck.
Cal Stocking of Cause for Divorce Guide Service (http://www.pacificnwoutdoors.com/) fished the Skagit this morning for sockeye. He and his clients managed to hook eight and land four with the largest couple pushing the ten pound mark. He said that he was anchored up shallow, right on the beach in the Mt Vernon area. He noted that bank fishermen are doing better than boat fishermen in most cases. Fishermen have been doing well from the bank in most areas with the most popular being Youngs Bar in Mt Vernon and the Railroad Bridge to the soccer field stretch in Burlington. Johnsons Bar/Gardner Rd will be a good bet once (if!) the water comes down and it is accessible. I watched the fishermen at the Railroad Bridge fish the high water on Monday and saw a couple of fish landed in the ten minutes I was there. Hopefully the water will come back into shape this week. Almost all of the fish we have seen have come off a Spin N Glo and sandshrimp plunked near the shoreline. Remember that sockeye are not open above Gilligan Creek (just above Sedro Woolley).
The upper Skagit/Cascade chinook fishery has still been semi productive. One customer reported that he and a friend fished the big eddy a couple of days ago and they managed to land a couple of nice hatchery springers.
SALTWATER
The big Marine Area 7 opener is coming up on July 1. Remember the southern portion including Biz Pt remains closed. All indications show that the opener should provide excellent opportunities to catch some nice sized kings. Jay Field of Dash-One Charters has taken the NOAA folks out to tag sublegal blackmouth a few times this month. He has noted that fishing has been excellent. Jay said that he has targeted fish mostly on the banks since they were trying to tag sublegals but expect good fishing throughout the islands. He did best trolling herring.
