Salmon fishing has been pretty slow here lately, but we did manage to get into a fairly decent bite today MOOCHING

Here's Scott Sypher from Griffin Mackqulayne Inshurance with a 27 pound nook and a 42" halibut that he stroked with a 16 ounce jig head and a mondo Gibbs UV grub.

A jig and a grub? Go figure.

We spent the majority of today looking for a big halibut for Packer and while he never got his big hali Stam was unlucky enough to hook into the mother of all barnies. Stam, Paker, and Sypher took turns fighting the beast for close to two hours with very little to show for it. Sypher was successful in getting it 50 to 60 feet off the bottom only to have the damn thing scream back to the bottom again. I'm convinced it was feeding and fornicating down there while we all went ape chit on the boat...well Bucket and I actually took a nap while the chaos ensued on the back deck.

After I called the fight off we grabbed a quick limit of reds

Fishnut axed me to post up some photos of ling cod stomach contents over the summer. Like Nelly he's fascinated by this stuff

Back after the salmon's again tomorrow and I hate to admit it...I put the Cannon downriggers back on the boat

Downriggers??? Say it isn't so! I've seen the downrigger guys do really well in about 200' of water off the cape,

Plugs and big spoons down to 250' for those feeder kings

Great reports, way to represent Sypher!! If any of these guys ever give up there spot on the preseason crew, the line for a replacement starts behind me. Looks and sounds like a great time every year!

We soiled Pineapple rock by trolling with downriggers there today. We did catch a 27 pound king on the first pass on the deck away from the rock a ways though. Then we went elsewhere and found some more kings that wanted to schwack a hoochie mamma. Nelly was right...it's a great way to grind around and find the fish. We covered a lot of water today

We "read the fleet" up in Sitka on the flight into town or when we are running up to a bunch of boats.
When the charter fleet is mooching when we pull in, we know the salmon are shallow and we can troll herring mid water column to score on kings.
When the charter fleet is trolling, the kings are deep and its plugs and spoons. If you try to fish herring close to the bottom you get every critter known to fishery science.. and some that aren't!
These observations only give you a rough idea and our Lowrance electronics get us dialed in quickly!
I can only imagine what Robbo will come up with after a season of TROLLING!!!
