I decided to check out that 5 star fishing report yesterday afternoon and fished the south end in 20 to 40 feet of water. I failed to mark even a single fish in 3 hrs:( I'm starting to wonder if I just have an supernatural ability to scare off the fish. I talked to a local and he said that Goodwin can be like this: hot and productive or the fish just disappear - story of my life.

I'd like to end this report by backing something Nelly said at the Triple Threat Salmon seminar: something to the effect of no fishing trip is a bust if you are out there to learn and I learn a little bit every time I head out: something as simple as where to park can make the next trip easier, how to use a new piece of gear or the contour of the lake bottom. Yesterday, I was able to try out my new kayak cart and it worked great.

Don't get discouraged BBG. Everyone has those days. I have been fishing Lk. Goodwin for years and it is an awesome lake to fish and u were on the right track. The south end of the lake along the shore there is a bump out on the bottom contour. Fish the north tip of that bump heavily awesome area. The biggest trout I have ever cought were out of that lake (and I mean they were BIGGGG). If u want to know more about it PM me and I'll let u know. I could right on and on about fishing LK .Goodwin.

Thanks for the reply. I remember the bump - I just don't think I was on the N. tip but I'll be sure to check it out and pick your brain before next time

Tackle busters reside in the South end of the lake, some of the biggest trout I never got to a net are probably still swimming around there. I also enjoyed some really good fishing up the east shore where there is a point (peninsula) about half way up the lake, from the point go east toward the shore and work the cove, good fishing early in the season.

I have a chance to go back this weekend and fish Goodwin again. How's it been fishing lately? Recommended techniques, baits and lures?

The boy will be taking his hunter education class just down the road and i don't think I need to be there 8 hrs a day both days:)
